🙌 Volunteer with De Chaumes Elementary & HISD

Join us in supporting our students and community by volunteering at De Chaumes Elementary! Whether you help in the classroom, library, or at events, your time makes a powerful impact.

✅ Step-by-Step Guide to Get Started

1. Review Requirements
HISD requires all volunteers to:

  • Complete an annual criminal background check

  • Pass the online orientation

  • Renew VIPS registration each school year 

2. Complete the VIPS Volunteer Orientation
Visit the “Volunteer in Public Schools (VIPS)” page on HoustonISD.org and complete the required orientation training before applying.

3. Submit the VIPS Application
Apply online via Raptor (VIPS portal):

  • Use full legal name matching your photo ID

  • Include valid email and school preferences (select De Chaumes!)

  • Agree to background check and volunteer guidelines 

4. Undergo Background Check
Processing typically takes 3–5 business days. You'll receive a confirmation email from Raptor. Plan to apply no more than 2 weeks before your first volunteer event 

5. Get Approved & Start Volunteering
Once cleared, you’re eligible to volunteer in any HISD school — including De Chaumes Elementary. Popular opportunities include:

  • Classroom assistance

  • Library support

  • Event chaperoning

  • Tutoring, mentoring, fundraising 

6. Follow Campus Guidelines
At De Chaumes, volunteers are expected to:

  • Sign in/out at the front office

  • Wear an HISD volunteer badge

  • Stay in designated areas only

  • Legal photo ID (e.g., state-issued license, passport)

  • Email address for communications and portal access

  • Time and willingness to support students (even a few hours per month helps!)
